Collectible dolls. Beloved characters.
Another popular group of collectible dolls are those imitating real characters or based on characters from literature and the movie.
And again, the leaders in this field are The Tonner Doll Company and The Alexander Doll Company.
The Alexander Doll Company was founded in 1923. Over the years, Madame Alexander initiated a series of "firsts" in the toy industry:
- 1930s, introduced the first dolls based on licensed characters from literature and the movies. Alice in Wonderland, Little Women, and Gone with the Wind were pioneering doll concepts which remain popular to this day.
- The first to create dolls in honor of living people (Queen Elizabeth in 1953, and the Dionne Quints in 1937).
Find below some of their Gone with the Wind, The Tudors and The Borgias collection dolls.
As I mentioned in the prior article the Tonner Doll Company is internationally renowned for both award-winning fashion dolls and character figures™ based on the hottest properties such as Harry Potter, Effanbee®, Disney, Lord of the Rings, Muppets, Twilight, DC Comics and The Wizard of Oz.
Although Hollywood Screen Legends are classified as fashion dolls I would like to present you couple of them in this article due to their inspiration (Ava Gardner and Bette Davis) amongst other, movie inspired characters.
